In view of the aggravating conflict in Iraq which is often interpreted by both sides as religious war, the Joint Council of Catholics and Muslims calls for understanding, reconciliation and dialogue.
We appeal also to the organization which has captured and imprisoned Ms. Teresa, a Polish woman living in Iraq for years, to show discretion and mercy, restrain from threatening her life and health, and release her. In The Month of Fasting - the holy month of Ramadan, such a gesture would be an expression of Muslim piety, and this is all we ask for the kidnappers from Abu Bakr as Siddik Brigades.
